Luxurious Retreat from the Busy Streets

The clients goal was to return the garden court to a lush green retreat, for residents to experience both in plan-view from their apartments, and as a destination. To achieve this, the garden's well designed layout of living components needed to be addressed for all their individual needs. Once assessed, a plan for remediation and substitution was developed to again deliver an orchestra of green to the buildings' common areas.

The non-functioning glass water feature as the focal point of the design required the plant material surrounding it to surpass sensory expectations by simulating water.

A fascinating articulation of steel, stone and plants delivers the experience of a landscape approaching, as if in motion.

A reflective steel panel captures the eye framing the pachysandra cascading down wall like water before splashing into a pool of grass whose upward blades and mounded forms are reminiscent of a refreshing band of Rapids.

The effect is similar in plan view with blocks of pachysandra breaking from the rippling sea of green like fractured currents.

An enticing cool glade of birches induces calm and creates a naturalistic escapes from the bustling NYC financial district, just steps from the garden.

A variety of program on the roof including a dining pavilion, lounges and a lawn, require meticulous maintenance of screening to insure separation of experiences.

Seasonal color accents pop against lush green textures that soften the imposing downtown skyline surrounding the site.

Well nurtured plantings offering depth of variety and form provide privacy and enchanting destinations for a luxurious retreat from the hurried pace of the city streets below.

The reflective glass emulates water emerging from a holly grove and descending down upon river rocks below. The rock pools are framed by a scattered pattern of annuals that celebrate the season and represent streamside wildflowers.

The icy white tones of painted lady ferns at the perimeter of the garden court provide another unexpected water texture of rippling shallows at the river’s edge beside a bosque inspired grove.

The weeping canopy of a cherry tree frames a table perfect for gazing into the shady depths of the garden’s undulating green cascades.

Upon meeting with the client, it was evident that they were looking for a landscape company that could fulfill their high expectations. It’s especially rewarding to have exceeded their expectations and continue to maintain the account for many years.
