I consider myself very lucky that what was once just a hobby for me is now a part of my career! I’ve always been big on houseplants in particular so I thrive in exploring new ways to get creative with my indoor plant design and horticultural skills. That being said, when one of my friends asked me to help him out with the existing plants at his little coffee shop earlier this year, it was a no brainer.
Maintaining plants is very therapeutic to me, so I started off by pruning any dead leaves and treating a variety of pest infestations from spider mites to mealybugs. After a few hours of hard work, I managed to help bring his plants back to life and he was so excited! While not all of them made the cut, it was a great learning experience for us both especially in figuring out how to identify pests and treat them accordingly.
The coffee shop employs a young disabled gentleman and one of his responsibilities is maintaining the plants. I have been helping him establish a watering routine with the plants to ensure they are not getting overwatered, which was one of the biggest reasons the plants were struggling in the first place. With the new soil, pots, and pest control I’m excited to watch these plants thrive! I had a lot of fun rearranging and designing around the existing plants, as well as incorporating the new ones that I suggested for the space. Since I find myself working from “home” at this coffee shop quite frequently, it only felt natural to lend my friend a hand and show him how to keep his plants healthy. I can’t wait to watch them continue to grow! Please enjoy some before and after pictures of some of the most dramatic transformations as well as some new plants I repotted for them!
